The Return
“I am not African because I was born in Africa, but because Africa was born in me”
Background
After 24 years of service Chief Jason Lewis, a Native of Africatown is returning home to continue the message of reconciliation he had read about from a previous generation of Africatown leaders. This tour gives one a comprehensive understanding about Africatown, the story and impact of the Clotilda voyage and finding as well as the incredible impact of this remarkable town on the country and world.
Ubuntu
This tour is inspired by the Nguni Bantu term 'Ubuntu'. 'Ubuntu' means "humanity". It is often translated as "I am because we are", or "humanity towards others". It is often used in a more philosophical sense to mean "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity".The Africatown Tour places the benefit to humanity as the fulcrum of our message. Through the message of 'Ubuntu', the history is conveyed in a manner that uplifts people and gives them a new perspective on the current challenges society faces.
"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."
Marcel Proust
